This Worksheet provides a detailed blueprint from which both you and Dazzling Data Technology can work during all phases of the web site design process. This fill-in-the-blanks sheet combined with the Web Site Design Contract, and the Web Site Quote or Web Site Package Deal of your choosing, will provide all the needed information to complete your web site successfully, short of the client-supplied raw data files. We recommend that you review and complete this sheet as best as possible. Any questions you may have will be addressed and resolved at the first Planning Meeting. Realize that the better you can define the specifications of the web site which you envision the more quickly and easily it will become a reality. There's no getting around it - the complete and detailed specification must be given sooner or later. If not given now then it will take longer and cost more for it to become a reality. When finished you should print it out then click the submit button. Submitting it will give a Dazzling Data Technology web designer a chance to review it, while a printed copy will give you a chance to add notes and questions to it. That way we will both be well prepared to have our Planning Meeting. After we discuss your web site in detail this finalized worksheet and our Web Site Design Contract will need to be completed and signed before work on the web site continues.

The typical amount of text on each page averages 400 words. The text for each page should be in a separate file with the title and page name (home, contents, etc.) at the top of the file to identify it. (A more convenient reference number for each web page may be assigned to it at the Planning Meeting.) IBM compatible MS Word, WordPerfect and plain ASCII text are preferred file formats. If you use a word processing program you can designate bold, italic and underline within your text. We can accept files from many word processing programs, but it may be necessary to apply a file conversion fee. Our hourly OCR rate would be applied to any text received on printed 8 ½” x 11” sheets of paper. Our hourly Data Entry rate would be applied to any handwritten text pages. Correct spelling, grammar and English usage are the responsibility of the client though we'll do our best to recommend corrections. Our computer automatically does Spell Check. Copy-editing can be done at the hourly rate, but is not included. While we can accept a variety of media formats, they must be IBM compatible. Files can also be sent via email. Check the media type(s) and file format(s) that you will be using. Although any font type can be specified and utilized in web design, it is a practice that needs to be done with care and forethought. The problem is that in order for someone to see the chosen font, they must have it installed on their system. One way around this is to convert a font into a graphic. The problem with this approach is that graphics take much more time to download and display than text, therefore this method should be reserved for headings only. For the body text, we highly recommend using generic font families or specifying a font style such as Serif, Sans Serif or Monotype. If you need a specific font that we don't have in our library of over 1000 fonts, you will need to supply us with the TrueType format of that font. Check all of the desired fonts (we'll discuss their usage during our Planning Meeting): Serif (Times Roman) Sans Serif (Helvetica, Arial) Monotype (Courier, Typewriter) Other
Graphics should be properly sized, optimized and submitted in the GIF or JPEG file formats. Graphics requiring sizing, optimization or file conversion will be billed at the appropriate hourly rates. If you know what type of graphics that you want but do not have access to them you can give us a description of what you are looking for and we can search our graphic gallery of more than a million graphics. List all of the graphics that you want to include in your web site:
Chosen web site colors must be selected from the 216 available non-dithering "web safe" colors. You can utilize the Web Safe Color Chart to locate the needed HEX numbers to be filled in below. (We can discuss color selection and usage during our Planning Meeting.) Background Color Body Text (Foreground) Color Headline Text Color Link Color Active Link Color Visited Link Color
This is the "top of page" graphics and information that has been carried over from newspapers and magazine periodicals into the world of electronic publishing. It is normally placed on the home page and contains things such as a company logo, the name of the web site, ownership details, slogan and other "branding" content. List all the items (logo, web site name, etc.) that you want in your masthead:
This can be a more condensed version of the masthead, requiring less space. It is placed at the top of each within the web site. It often contains a navigation bar. List all the items (navigation bar, company name, etc.) that you want in your page header:
The page footer is displayed at the bottom of each page within the web site. It can also contain a navigation bar and other information such as a copyright, visit counter, revision dates and credits. List all the items (navigation bar, copyright, etc.) that you want in your page footer:
Any link to an external web site included within your site should contain the full URL followed by the page on which it is located. List the URL and page name (home, contents, etc.) for every link to be included in your web site:
Sounds and music can be added to a web site in a variety of ways. The most straight forward and common method is to use a WAV or MIDI file. More advanced methods could utilize Streaming Audio and/or MP3 files. In the space below describe what type of sounds you would like added to your site (if any), and to what pages that you what them associated, along with their filenames if applicable.
Animated GIFs are the easiest way to add animation to a web site. Another plus to utilizing this animation type is that most browsers can display them. List all of the animated GIFs that you would like to have included in your web site. For each animated GIF enter its filename followed by the web page (home, contents, etc.) that they should be placed on. If you do not have animated GIF files, but would still like to include them, enter a description of the animated GIFs that you desire followed by the web page name that they should be placed on. Locating or creating custom animated GIFs will be billed at the animation hourly rate.
There are many different browsers in use today. The following make up better than 90% of the ones in use. In order to have the highest possible visibility it would be advantageous to optimize your website for all browsers, however this limits some of the capabilities of the newer browsers. Most people are using a version 4.x or 5.x browser these days and you would limit your audience to approximately 80% of the total users by optimizing your web site to those browsers. MS Internet Explorer 5.x MS Internet Explorer 4.x MS Internet Explorer 3.x Netscape Navigator 4.x Netscape Navigator 3.x America Online (AOL) 5.x America Online (AOL) 4.x America Online (AOL) 3.x WebTV Other
A web site needs to be optimized for different screen resolutions. This provides users with comfortable and user-friendly experience. Most people have a display resolution of 800 x 600 or higher. However WebTV users and owners of 486 based computer systems may still use a 640 x 480 resolution. Check all screen resolutions to include in the optimization of your web site. 640 x 480 800 x 600 1024 x 768
It is highly desirable to always get your web site listed on the first page of search results from any search engine so that the user will be most inclined to go to your site. But to accomplish this is very difficult since everyone is trying to do it. To increase your chances of getting on the first page you need to have as few keywords as possible which uniquely describe your site. Example keywords for this page: Web Site Design, Specifications, Worksheet, Design Help, design fill-in-the-blanks, etc. List at least six (6) and preferably not more than thirty (30) keywords which identify and define the general field and the uniqueness of your web site. (We can discuss keyword selection in greater detail during our Planning Meeting.)
